Pop sensation Shakira is set to receive MTV VMAs 2023 Video Vanguard Award. After Nicki Minaj received the honor last year, Shakira will get the spotlight with a performance at this year’s show.

Pop sensation Shakira is set to be honored with the Video Vanguard Award at the upcoming 2023 MTV VMAs, scheduled for September 12. This accolade signifies a historic moment as the first time a South American artist has received the award. The recognition comes after her dynamic performance at the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show alongside Jennifer Lopez. Over the years, this prestigious award has been presented to music icons like Beyoncé, Madonna, and Kanye West. Previous Michael Jackson Vanguard Award recipients include Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, and Missy Elliott. Notably, David Bowie, The Beatles, and director Richard Lester shared the honor at the first-ever VMAs in 1984.

In addition to her Video Vanguard Award, Shakira is also confirmed to take the stage and perform at the 2023 MTV VMAs. Her presence promises to bring energy and excitement to the event, adding to her legacy as a global pop sensation and a live performance powerhouse. The performance lineup also includes Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin, and Stray Kids, with more artists set to be announced.

Following her electrifying performance at the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show, Shakira has continued to make her mark on the music scene. She has released a series of singles, collaborating with artists like Rauw Alejandro, Anuel AA, Black Eyed Peas, Karol G, Bizarrap, and Ozuna. Her diverse collaborations demonstrate her versatility and ongoing impact in the industry.

Taking place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, this year's MTV VMAs are shaping up to be a star-studded event, with Taylor Swift and SZA leading the nominations. Artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, and Doja Cat are also in the running for awards.

Fans have the opportunity to vote for their favorites across 15 gender-neutral categories, including the coveted "Video of the Year," presented by Burger King. Voting is open until Friday, September 1st, and "Best New Artist" voting will remain active into the show on Tuesday, September 12th. Notably, nominations for social categories like "Group of the Year" and "Song of Summer," presented by M&M’S, will be announced at a later date.
